The holidays are stressful for everyone, and that stress can be compounded if you happen to be traveling during this hectic time of year, too. Worries about flights, gifts, and preparations may threaten to derail your plans to have a relaxing holiday, but with our guide to stress-free winter travel, you can make it through even the busiest traveling days with ease!
Tip #1- Bundle Your Travel Components
One of the easiest ways to make your holiday travel a cinch is to bundle as much of your trip into one package. Airfare, hotels, and parking can all be purchased as a bundle which is a great way to save you not only time but often a significant amount of money, as well. There are huge opportunities to save by bundling traveling expenses, bundling airport parking and hotel reservations on Airport Parking Reservations and Park Sleep Fly! Another great aspect of using a service like this is that you only have one point of contact should anything go wrong, alleviating a ton of stress during this busy time.
Tip #2- Be Proactive; Research and Plan
The earlier you can start planning your trip, the better. Download travel apps, check passports and secure travel insurance well ahead of time. You should also read up on the newest airport security processes and regulations so you won’t be that person holding up the line during the busiest travel day. Ensure that you know the rules about what can be brought via carry-on and what needs to be checked so you can write your packing lists accordingly. Then double check your lists and write one for the things you’ll need to do around the house before you leave. The night before, organize your belongings, double check your packing list and make sure that you have your necessary items stored accessibly in your carry-on bag. It also doesn’t hurt to prepare your return trip documents ahead of time so your trip home is just as easy. On the day of your trip, make sure that you give yourself plenty of time (at least a two-hour buffer,) just in case there are delays.
Tip #3- Pack Light
Not only will packing light save you the hassle of needing to check luggage (and the lines that accompany that task), it will also keep your possessions from possibly getting lost. Do yourself a favor and pack as lightly as possible so you can carry your belongings with you at all times. If you’re going to be gone a while and carry-on isn’t an option, consider investing in smart luggage or any of the new GPS luggage markers that are on the market. This way, even if your bag winds up MIA, you can still track where it wound up so the airline can get it back to you ASAP.
Tip #4- Keep a Good Attitude
While this time of year can be stressful, it doesn’t have to be. You can take this time to count your blessings and feel gratitude for the fact that you’re able to travel to see friends or family at the most wonderful time of year, or you can let the crowds and hassle get to you. Either way, you’ll get to your destination, but one mindset will be the one that gets you there happy.
