Have you ever heard the pilot over the loudspeaker and thought, “He sounds like he hasn’t slept in days.”
Well, you may have been right – but that’s finally about to change.
The FAA’s rules about pilot schedules and rest time hadn’t been updated since the 1960’s. Needless to say, sleep science has come a long way since then, and on Wednesday, the FAA introduced new rules that will go a lot further toward making sure the people flying the plane aren’t falling asleep at the wheel.
Your fellow passengers, however, as still just as likely to nod off on your shoulder. The FAA can’t do anything about that.
