Have you ever flown Republic Airways? Well, even if you think the answer is no, if you’ve taken off in a regional jet and bought a ticket from Delta, American, United, Continental or US Airways, the flight was handled by the big Republic Airways Holdings company.
Republic once flew planes for Frontier, but when this carrier went bankrupt, the company took over many of their routes, since they had no where to use 17 planes designated for Frontier.
Now the company has taken over Midwest Airlines, again, rathan than having its planes grounded, they figured buying the company made the most sense. These aquisitions mean the Republic now flies 210 regional jets and has 4500 employees. And one other sweet spot: They made a 2008 profit of $85 million on revenue of $1.5 billion.
