Chicago O'Hare International Airport, 10000 W O'Hare Ave, Chicago, IL 60666, (800) 832-6352, www.flychicago.com
Chicago O’Hare International Airport is known by many as one of the busiest airports in the world. Named after the United States Navy’s flying ace Edward O’Hare, this airport can never be overlooked in terms of size or travel. The character is quite intriguing.
One of the best parts about being in O’Hare is that people can view a replica of Butch O’Hare’s fighter plane. O’Hare was the first flying ace of the United States Navy. He received the Medal of Honor during World War II in 1942. Chicagoans have an F4F Wildcat on display. Although O’Hare did not train in it, the plane was restored after being recovered from Lake Michigan. It is on display in Terminal 2.
Airplane delays and Chicago’s O’Hare seem to go hand in hand. Unfortunately, the airport consistently ranks among the bottom of on-time airports in the United States. Many people expect delays at some point when flying in or out of O’Hare. Perhaps part of the reason for this is a result of the busyness that the airport experiences on a daily basis. However, a better reason may be the fact that O’Hare does not have the infrastructure or capacity for the passengers and types of planes that visit every day of the year.
The O’Hare airport is known for featuring many things, but one of the most unique pieces of art that many people, especially children, talk about is the complete Brachiosaurus skeleton that is on display at Terminal 1. It would be an understatement to say that it towers above everything, and the skeleton itself is impressive to behold. The Brachiosaurus continues to please people of all ages.
O’Hare has plenty of places to eat, but if time is short and one wants to try something unique and traditional to Chicago, visit the Billy Goat Tavern & Grill at Terminal 1. The food features omelets, steak & eggs, burgers, and sandwiches. What makes Billy Goat different is that the original restaurant was next to the old Chicago Stadium. According to tradition, a billy goat fell off a truck and wandered into the restaurant. Ever since, the establishment has highlighted that history. The name itself is unique, and locals love the food.
It is understandable to many parents and adults that children can easily get bored as they wait for their flight. Instead of watching the long moments tick by, the children may visit the Kids on the Fly Exhibit, which is on the upper level at Terminal 2. Children can climb on various planes and interact with some creative airplane activities. There are many things to do to keep children happy and occupied. The only problem is that it might be difficult to get the children to leave.
