Tranquility at an airport? Yes, it can happen
San Jose Norman Mineta Airport is safe and quiet in several areas. If you get delayed and need to rest, there are areas around Terminal A where you can get some sleep. There are also a lot of security guards on patrol 24/7, so you won't have to worry about anything happening. In addition, the restrooms are quite clean compared to other airports.
Night owls beware
None of the shops or restaurants are open 24 hours, which can be a real problem if you're taking a red-eye flight anywhere. Most of them close at around 10 p.m. and don't open back up until 5 a.m.Another problem is that there aren't any signs, so travelers might have some difficulty getting around, but San Jose Airport is small enough that it shouldn't be too difficult.
Black and white keys at the Blue Dot section
If you love the piano, then play the one over in Terminal A's "Blue Dot" section or the one near Terminal B's baggage claim. It's available for anybody to try their hand whether they're experts or students. Another popular stop is the Club at SJC. It's a VIP lounge where any passenger is a VIP no matter what flight they choose. All you need is a $35 pass to enjoy free snacks, drinks, and newspapers, and there are even great shower facilities complete with toiletries.
SJC's fine local fare
If you're looking for fine food with a local touch, then head to Gordon Biersch Brewing Company over at Terminal A, Gate 11. Not only do they have excellent food that's specifically meant for travelers, but also the beers are all locally brewed at Gordon Biersch Brewery. Over in Terminal B, you'll find The Soup and Salad Station at Gate 23. This restaurant strives to use the finest local ingredients in all of their products, and they have plenty of options that fit your diet.
Newspapers, Internet and massage chairs too
There's free Wi-Fi 24 hours a day, so you can check your e-mail anytime you want. You'll also find comfortable massage chairs scattered across gates 10-13 and four newsstands around Terminal A. Terminal B has plenty of shops and stands of their own, and one of the best is the CJ Olson stand at Gate 21, which offers fresh local nuts, cherries and homemade candy. Both terminals have ATM machines, and Terminal A has a foreign currency exchange if you're coming here from another country.
