Address: 9800 Airport Boulevard, San Antonio, TX 78216
As any seasoned traveler knows, a long stay in a boring airport can make your day miserable. The San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is not one of those airports. Whether you have a layover, or you simply need to wait for your flight to depart, here is the must-know information about SAT to make your stay enjoyable.
San Antonio’s Unique Culture, Even In The Airport
The best thing about the San Antonio International Airport is the culture. Some airports are sterile landing pads for planes and buildings for people to congregate. There are security checkpoints, a few coffee shops and fast food restaurants, and gates with stiff chairs to sit in until your flight is ready to board.
SAT is different. As soon as you enter the airport, you are immersed in some of the key components of San Antonio’s culture. These include Tex-Mex heritage, food, and music, and Spurs fandom. Many of the restaurants in the SAT airport feature Tex-Mex food, and many of the shops sell Spurs paraphernalia.
Public Art San Antonio – For When You’re Just Passing Through
An organization called Public Art San Antonio administers art exhibits in many public facilities in the city. The San Antonio Airport is no exception. There are a variety of permanent and temporary exhibits, including art you can view as you walk through the parking garage. Many of the temporary exhibits reflect elements of Texas or San Antonio history. You can check out these exhibits after you enter Terminal B, and your kids might even enjoy them.
Eat Local And Dine Fine
Two of the best restaurants in the San Antonio airport are The Frutería and Vino Volo. The Frutería is a local restaurant inspired by Mexican cuisine. The menu includes a variety of fresh fruits, tacos, tapas, and fruity cocktails. Their prices are fairly reasonable, but the SAT website offers a ten percent off coupon for airport customers.
Vino Volo is not local to San Antonio, but it is one of the best places to drink and dine in the airport. They offer a variety of fine wines from all over the world, as well as small plates for lunch and dinner. You may also purchase a bottle of wine for your arrival home. The shop includes a boutique and a lounge with free Wi-Fi. If the cost seems a bit high, the SAT website also offers a ten percent off discount to airport customers for retail merchandise.

The San Antonio Airport website offers coupons for many of their retailers. The deals are divided by terminals. Simply check your terminal’s coupon page before arriving or while waiting in line at the security checkpoint, and download coupons for whichever stores and restaurants you’d like to visit.
All airport visitors may use free Wi-Fi inside the terminals, whether or not you are patronizing a particular shop or restaurant.
